What is the purpose of finishing

In a centrifugal barrel tumbling machine, the operator can adjust the speed of tumbling. This level of control allows for finer finishing and polishing at lower speeds, and aggressive deburring and edge smoothing at higher speeds.

No matter how many steps your process has, each step must always be completed separately. Deburring and polishing cannot be done simultaneously. Instead, you should deburr first, and then polish. If more than 1 step is needed, the steps should be performed in ascending ordescending order of smoothness. For example, polishing first and deburring last.

Use of the correct tumbling media is crucial for centrifugal barrel finishing. The wrong media, particularly the wrong geometry, can double the cycle time for parts. Using cones or cylinders for tumbling media when not appropriate can slow down processing time significantly.

Gulf States Saw & Machinery Co., Inc. bookletmakers, and finishing systems are known for speed and versatility. Our Sprint series models have an excellent reputation in the industry for reliability and performance. The SF2 bookletmaker features wire-fed stitching technology which was only possible in larger systems up to three times the price.

There are many media options. It is not easy to select the right media. The wrong media can cause major problems such as media being stuck in a hole or damaging the part.

You want a matte or satin finish. The aluminum oxide blasting media can be added to the centrifugal barrel finishing process. This will make the part shiny instead of matte.

The two main options for metalworking machines that can finish and deburr are wet and dry. These machines accomplish the same thing using different methods. Wet machines spread a coolant mix on the surface of the processed parts. Dry machines operate without this mix.

It is vital to use the correct tumble media for centrifugal finishing. The wrong media, especially with the wrong geometry, can significantly increase the time it takes to complete a cycle. The use of cones or rings for tumbling media can reduce processing time by a significant amount.

Flat parts make you feel lost? Flat parts, like washers, pose one of the most difficult challenges in centrifugal-barrel finishing. Parts tend to stick to the barrel and wick together so that only one side can be deburred. To solve this problem, you can add glass bead blasting medium to the centrifugal drum finishing process. The beads protect the parts from sticking to each another and to the barrel. Glass beads can be used for parts that have a tendency to cup together.

Material Finishing Machines Last

We have clients who rely on our metalworking machines across a range of industries, including the following:

These machines are built for the multiple shift and seven-day-per-week operations. Built with the heaviest production requirements in mind to allow you to meet your large production needs whether it be deburring, slag grinding, edge radiusing, paint/surface preparation, finishing/polishing or a combination of these applications.
